Glossary

Concise definitions of the terms used across Caramel. If you encounter a word in the product or these docs that isn’t listed here, check the relevant section page for context.

The AI campaign generator. Describe a goal in plain language and the AI builds a complete campaign — journey logic, messages, and audience segment — for your review. Found under AI Agent → Campaigns in the sidebar. See AI Campaign Generator.

A consumption unit used by the AI Agent when generating or refining campaigns. Each generation uses credits based on campaign complexity. Credits reset monthly and the allocation depends on your plan. View your balance under Billing → Usage.

A one-time send to a segment. Use it for promotions, seasonal announcements, or any message that goes out once to a defined audience. Unlike a Journey, a Broadcast doesn’t repeat — you schedule it and it fires once. See Broadcasts.

Your workspace in Caramel. It holds your customers, forms, marketing campaigns, integrations, and settings. Each business is a separate, self-contained environment. You can manage multiple businesses from a single account. See Create your business.

A contact in your Customers list. Each record holds the person’s name, email, phone, traits, and activity history. Customers are created from form submissions, manual adds, CSV imports, or connected integrations. See Customer profiles.

A data-capture page you build in Caramel. Forms can collect leads, registrations, feedback, or any other information. Each submission creates or updates a Customer record and can trigger marketing automations. See Forms.

A connection between Caramel and a third-party tool — such as Shopify, HubSpot, Salesforce, Mailchimp, or Zapier. Integrations sync data, route submissions, or trigger actions in connected platforms. See Integrations.

An ongoing, automated marketing campaign. A Journey runs automatically for every customer who meets the entry condition — a segment rule, a form submission, or a tracked event. It continues running in the background without manual sends. See Journeys.

An admin-issued access level, not a self-serve purchase. It gives permanent access to all 6 messaging channels with usage caps matching the Business plan. AI generation requires your own API key. See Choose a plan.

The full marketing suite in Caramel. The Omnichannel section contains Analytics, Journeys, Segments, Broadcasts, Templates, and WhatsApp Flows. Available on Growth and above. See Marketing.

Your Caramel subscription tier: Starter, Lite, Growth, Business, or Enterprise. Plans control which channels and features are available, and set limits on forms, customers, journeys, segments, integrations, and AI credits. See Choose a plan.

A named, rule-based group of customers. Define conditions (traits, subscription preferences) once; Caramel evaluates the segment continuously so the right contacts qualify automatically. Segments are the primary targeting mechanism for Journeys and Broadcasts. See Segments.

A premium feature that generates individual, AI-crafted journeys for your highest-value customers — based on their specific history, milestones, and preferences. Available to selected accounts by request. See Signature Concierge.

A completed response to a Form. Each submission is stored in Caramel and can create or update a Customer record, route data to connected integrations, and trigger marketing automations. See Where submissions go.

A reusable message — email, SMS, WhatsApp, Telegram, or Push — that you create once and use across multiple Journeys and Broadcasts. Managed under Omnichannel → Templates.

Another word for Business (see above). Each workspace is a self-contained environment with its own customer list, campaigns, settings, and team. Caramel uses “workspace” and “business” interchangeably in the interface.
