Email & Sender Domain
By default, campaigns sent through Caramel go out on a shared sending domain. Verifying your own domain ties your campaigns to your brand’s email address and improves deliverability scores with inbox providers.
Navigate to Settings → Email or go to ?section=communication.
Sender identity status
Section titled “Sender identity status”The top of the page shows your current sending status:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Unverified | No custom domain is configured; emails use the shared sending domain |
| Pending | DNS records have been published and verification is in progress |
| Verified | Your domain is active and campaigns send from your address |
Once verified, the page shows your sending reputation metrics: bounce rate, complaint rate, delivery rate, and your daily and monthly sending limits with current usage.
Verify a custom sender domain
Section titled “Verify a custom sender domain”Click Verify sender domain to open the setup wizard.
Step 1 — Choose your setup type
Section titled “Step 1 — Choose your setup type”Select whether you own a domain (for example yourbusiness.com) or use a personal/webmail address.
- I have a domain — follow steps 2–4 below
- I use a webmail address — no DNS records are required; emails will send from a Caramel-managed address on your behalf
Step 2 — Publish required DNS records
Section titled “Step 2 — Publish required DNS records”The wizard generates DKIM records specific to your domain. Add these to your DNS provider (your domain registrar or hosting panel):
| Record type | Value | Required? |
|---|---|---|
| CNAME × 3 | Provided in the wizard | Yes — required for email authentication |
Copy each record exactly as shown. Propagation typically takes a few minutes but can take up to 48 hours depending on your DNS provider.
Step 3 — Improve deliverability (optional)
Section titled “Step 3 — Improve deliverability (optional)”Expand the Improve deliverability section to see two additional optional records:
| Record type | Purpose |
|---|---|
| MX | Routes bounce notifications back to Caramel |
| TXT (SPF) | Aligns your envelope sender with your domain, closing a common spam score deduction |
These records are not required for email delivery — campaigns send even without them — but publishing them can raise your Mail-Tester score by 1–2 points.
Step 4 — Complete verification
Section titled “Step 4 — Complete verification”Click Check DNS records. The wizard polls your DNS in the background and moves you to the verified state once it detects the records. You can close the wizard and return to this page at any time to check progress.
Note: Verification checks run automatically every 10 minutes. You do not need to stay on this page while waiting.
After verification
Section titled “After verification”Once verified, all campaigns sent from your workspace go out from your domain. Your brand name appears in the “From” field that customers see in their inbox.
If you want to change your sending domain later, open the wizard again — the previous domain is replaced when the new one is verified.
